Merdeka Head Hunting

The great start to the polo year continues for me.  Head Hunters took a while to get going, but when we did, we eventually got past Maple Leaf Polo 7-4 on Friday.  Yesterday, on the Putrajaya field we had it even easier, leading 9 – 2 1/2 against Royal Pahang SMP, before easing up to win 10 – 5 1/2.

Playing with Ed Shaharuddin again is a real joy for me.  I have always rated him the best Malaysian player after the demise of his friend, the late great Shariman Sarir.   Ed can play the classic polo that I love, yet he was the first Malaysian of the new breed of ball-jugglers that the Cambiaso era brought.

In other words Ed can do everything.  He is fitter this year and is looking really good.  I am really enjoying playing with him and our partnership on the field is getting the results.

It is fun playing with my friends Kuo Lee and his son Keith, who are alternating games, and Stanley Sinnappen and Dato’ David Morais, who are sharing a spot.  We went for a wonderful crab dinner at Aliyaa’s Island Restaurant last night to celebrate our wins and Steve Evans birthday.

My horses are going really well.  Colorada has never played better for me.  She has settled down and I finally starting to feel that I can play her.  I have always thought she was too good for me, and too difficult for me to handle when she got hot.  Somehow, she has mellowed this season, and I am getting fantastic performances from her.

Pedro and Purita are also looking wonderful and performing very well.   They are looking so fit and well that our vets asked us about our feeding and nutrition programme.  It is great when medical professionals recognise how well you are doing it.  It is no secret that we feed Zack’s Tack Custom Polo Mix – made with stabilised rice bran.

Natasha designed a super supporter’s tee shirt for Head Hunters.  I love the bulldog on the back, which was actually our old Rebels logo, a shout-out to Kuo Lee’s first bulldog. Panfield Cassidy rides again!

Head Hunters two wins puts us in the semi-finals of the tournament.  Our opponents will be decided today.
