Shandur Bound

I’m really looking forward to going to Pakistan next week.   It’s the second time Natasha and I are going on the Royal Tour of Chitral and the Shandur Polo Festival.  It’s an epic adventure tour that ten of us will be on this year.

Natasha and I went in 2019 and were going to go again, till Covid sanctions delayed us, till this year.

On Saturday, we will fly to Islamabad via Bangkok.   We have one night in Islamabad.  This time there is no flight through the mountains – PIA reduced the Islamabad-Chitral route to only once a week.  So our trek up to Shandur in 4WD’s is a little longer.

Nonetheless, there is nothing else like it, and we are so looking forward to going to Chitral, Mastuj and Shandur again.

First stop will be the majestic Hindukush Heights Hotel.  Can’t wait to get back there.  We have two days, then we go up from 5,000 ft to Mastuj, at 9,000 ft, where we stay in the chalets at Mastuj Fort.  The final push takes us up to the rarified air at 12,000 ft at Shandur Top.
